The U.S. government’s planned withdrawal of $2.6 billion from Gavi through 2030 threatens to leave 75 million children unvaccinated and could result in 1.2 million preventable deaths globally. This transition is not merely theoretical; in 2023, USAID disbursements accounted for approximately 12% of total export earnings in Kenya and 11.8% of mining exports in Rwanda. For Tanzania, a 26% year on year drop in USAID flows has already been recorded.
